In a remarkable display of commitment to nurturing young talents, the Flying Jurist recently embarked on a transformative mentorship program at Botebo Tsebo Secondary School in the Vaal, in collaboration with the Afrikan Peer Growth Network. The initiative aims to ignite the aspirations of budding aviation enthusiasts and open doors to a world of possibilities for these young minds.
One standout student benefiting from this initiative is Tholoana Motsoeneng, a determined Grade 10 learner with dreams of soaring high in the skies as a pilot. Tholoana’s passion caught the attention of Flying Jurist’s Prof Angelo Dube, who has been actively involved in guiding aspiring aviators on their journey to realizing their dreams.
Prof Dube’s commitment to Tholoana’s dreams was evident when he took her under his wing and arranged for a visit to the Aero Expo South Africa in July 2023 at Wonderboom National Airport. This experience marked a significant milestone in Tholoana’s journey, providing her with a firsthand look at the aviation industry. Prof Dube went a step further, ensuring Tholoana had the opportunity to access an aircraft and, for the first time, immerse herself in the cockpit, feeling the controls and experiencing the essence of piloting.
Tholoana Motsoeneng, beaming with excitement after the Aero Expo experience, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I never thought I would get this chance. Prof Dube has not only shown me the ins and outs of the aviation world but has made me believe that I can achieve my dream of becoming a pilot. This mentorship means the world to me.”
Another bright star at Botebo Tsebo Secondary School, Tharollo Mokaeane, aspires to become an aeronautical engineer and contribute to the development of efficient aircraft engines. Prof Dube, recognizing the potential in Tharollo’s passion, has extended his mentorship to guide and support her on her journey. Tharollo, filled with enthusiasm, shared her aspirations, stating, “I want to design engines that are not only powerful but also environmentally friendly. Prof Dube’s mentorship is guiding me towards making my dream a reality.”
In a visit to the school in November 2023, the Flying Jurist engaged not only with Tholoana and Tharollo but also with the school management and members of the Science Eco Club. The atmosphere was charged with inspiration as Prof Dube shared his experiences and insights, encouraging the students to pursue their dreams with determination and resilience.
During the visit, Prof Dube promised to continue his mentorship of these aspiring aviators, cementing a commitment to the long-term growth and development of these young minds. The Flying Jurist’s mentorship goes beyond the conventional classroom setting, providing real-world exposure and experiences that ignite a passion for aviation and aerospace.
The mentorship program not only focuses on the technical aspects of aviation but also emphasizes the importance of leadership, perseverance, and a strong work ethic. Prof Dube serves as a role model for these students, illustrating that with dedication and the right guidance, even the sky is not the limit.
The impact of Flying Jurist’s mentorship at Botebo Tsebo Secondary School extends beyond individual dreams; it creates a ripple effect within the community. By nurturing young talent and fostering a love for aviation, this initiative contributes to building a future generation of skilled professionals who will play a pivotal role in the aerospace industry.
As we witness the unfolding chapters of Tholoana Motsoeneng and Tharollo Mokaeane’s journeys, it becomes evident that mentorship programs like these have the power to shape destinies. The Flying Jurist, in collaboration with the Afrikan Peer Growth Network, is not just opening doors for these students; they are propelling them towards a future where the sky is not the limit but the beginning of endless possibilities.
